San Antonio, the "spirit of Texas," is the ninth-largest city in the United States, and continues to grow, with its thriving arts community and historical structures. Mixed in this city are flavors of Native Americans, Old Mexico, Germany, the Wild West, African Americans, and the Deep South. Along with TRIP, you will have the opportunity to indulge in a little bit of history and fun, all in one package.
The program will begin with a visit to the Alamo, a historical structure where 189 soldiers defended their fort and fought off 4,000 Mexicans. Before visiting the Alamo, you will see a film that shows a reenactment of the historical event, so that you will understand the fort's significance. Enjoy a lunch at the famous Hard Rock Cafe, a restaurant and a museum that contains collections of guitars and other rock memorabilia. Of course, you cannot visit San Antonio and neglect to go to the well-known Paseo del Rio, better known as the "River Walk." This delightful place provides European-style sidewalk cafes, specialty boutiques, and a three-level glass shopping mall. The River Walk also includes dining, entertainment, and water taxi service down 2.5 miles of the river, where you will view the heart of the business district of San Antonio.
You will also visit Ripley's Believe It or Not, a unique museum filled with 500 curiosities from around the world. After the museum, you will visit downtown San Antonio and have a chance to shop and enjoy the vafes and the Villita. The Villita is the heart of San Antonio. You will view artists and craftsmen there, at work in their shops and restaurants. Then, in the evening, enjoy a spectacular show at the Majestic Theatre. This show will be an excellent finale for the activities of this trip.
Sunday will be a day designated to attend your host family's church and meet new friends. You will enjoy a nice lunch with the church after the morning service.
